Groundwater Ad Hoc Committee update: some recommendations advanced, ordinance work remains on hold

He said the ad hoc group was formed after the Livestock Operations Study Group to address groundwater concerns arising from those recommendations. The committee produced recommendations and a work plan, and Chase summarized which items are complete, which are in progress and which remain stalled. He said some high-effort items—such as adopting a county stormwater management or erosion-control ordinance and formalizing citation authority—are on hold because of limited staff capacity and funding.
Chase emphasized the interdepartmental nature of groundwater work—public health, planning and land and water conservation all contribute—and said some tasks that advance groundwater protection have been folded into other planning documents, such as the comprehensive plan and the land and water resource management plan. He encouraged the committee to re-evaluate priorities if members want more progress on ordinances or enforcement authority and offered to provide further details on highlighted progress items.
Next steps: Chase said staff will continue tracking the work plan, coordinate with other departments, and bring items forward when resources allow; the committee did not adopt new actions at the July 16 meeting.
