Council updates Page Park timeline and asks for public input on play equipment

Project manager Jim Wilson told the July 13 council meeting that remaining work at Page Park will follow permit issuance, site survey, preconstruction inspection and sediment controls. He said scaffolding that had impeded the survey was removed and the survey was scheduled for the next Wednesday, with inspection the following day. "It's basically at the end of that, it's about a total of 6 weeks of construction," Wilson said, projecting work to finish by the end of August or early September.
Council and staff discussed the play area: Wilson said the contract includes a future playground and that contractors were asked to propose soft fall-zone material. The architect/engineer recommended a mulch-type material, but council members asked for options, color samples and confirmation that any selected surface meets child-safety specifications and installer certification requirements. The manager said staff would provide product details and ensure installers have required licenses and certifications before work proceeds.
Council also raised signage and rules for the new park—leash rules, bike access, smoking prohibitions—and asked the Parks & Grounds Committee to recommend sign language at its Thursday meeting. Chair Martha Soult reiterated that the public can submit comments via the Village Center email (info@friendshipheightsmd.gov) and that input on additional structures will be considered after initial opening.
