Provo council adopts level 2 fire restrictions for city watershed

The Provo City Council voted on July 14 to accept and continue level 2 fire restrictions within the Provo City watershed after city staff described recent drought and fire-risk conditions.
Coby Hubbs explained that Utah County enacted level 2 restrictions on June 26 and the city issued an emergency order on July 2 at 5 p.m. enacting the same level for the Provo watershed. "On July 2 at 5PM, I enacted those, fire level 2 fire restrictions," Hubbs said, and he told the council there was no immediate expectation to rescind the restrictions without a change in weather.
Councilors voted unanimously to continue the restrictions; the council noted hope for monsoon rains but did not set a rescission date. The order was presented as an emergency action the council accepted at the meeting; enforcement, outreach and updates will be managed by city staff.
