The district wellness committee reported to the board that it met four times during the 2025–26 school year to review school food service, physical education and the existing wellness policy and to expand outreach to families, the committee presenter said.
The presenter said the district partnered with Nourish and Thrive to provide age-appropriate nutrition education and culinary demonstration programs at the district’s four elementary schools and the middle school. For kindergarten through fourth grade, the committee described a 30-minute interactive assembly called "Superheroes Need Superfoods," which combines a superhero-themed story, a play-along game focused on six "super foods," and a sticker/coloring activity. For fifth- and sixth-grade students the presenter described a 30-minute assembly called "Foods That Fuel," which introduces MyPlate guidance, balanced snacks and three-food-group rules (protein, fiber and healthy fats).
The presenter said activities included "build your own balanced plate" coloring and an interactive "name that superfood" guessing game and that classroom sessions emphasized smart-snacking and practical tips for families. The presenter noted that on May 14 the district distributed an email titled "Stressless Family Meals" with videos on eight meal-time strategies, a virtual presentation and a cooking demonstration; she said the technology department would resend the message to families "again tomorrow afternoon." "Our technology department will be resending it out to everyone again tomorrow afternoon," the presenter said.
The wellness committee invited parents and staff to join future committee work and listed Jacqueline Rosa as a contact whose information is on the district website. The presenter said the committee remains focused on fostering a healthy, supportive environment and broadening outreach to parents, families and staff to support student nutrition and lifelong habits.
The board did not take formal action on the report; the presenter concluded by inviting community members to contact Jacqueline Rosa for committee participation.
