Denton awards water engineering contract, requires cul‑de‑sac turnaround, amends keno terms and approves surplus hay sale

The Village of Denton Board of Trustees on Dec. 2 approved a series of administrative actions tied to public works, contracts and village revenues.
Procurement and water project: The clerk sent procurement notices to five engineering firms and published the request in the Lincoln Journal Star; the board reviewed a single proposal and voted to contract with Miller Associates to provide engineering services for a Water Improvement Grant Project. The minutes record the selection followed standard procurement notices but show only one proposal was received.
Subdivision and cul‑de‑sac: Olsson & Associates submitted a cul‑de‑sac plan and board members were advised the property cul‑de‑sac would cost about $25,000 more than shown on the preliminary plat. By motion the board required a turnaround at the end of 6th Street with a 35‑foot radius as required by the subdivision regulations and directed the clerk to notify the developers and provide the engineer’s drawings.
Keno contract: The board discussed an amendment to the village keno contract (the contract expires in July 2025). The trustees voted to ask the village attorney to redraft the contract to lower the village’s gross‑proceeds payout from 7% to 5% and to lower the operator payout from 13% to 11% and returned the revised draft to the board for future consideration.
Surplus hay resolution and claims: Trustees approved Resolution No. 24‑12‑1 to offer 12 large round brome hay bales for public sale by sealed bid at the regular meeting on Jan. 6, 2025; the resolution states the village determined the total fair market value of the items to be less than $65 and directs publication of sale notice in three village locations and the Lincoln Journal Star at least seven days prior to sale. The board also approved Claims List A ($26,295.46), Claims List B ($6,013.76), Keno checking reconciliations ($70,938) and November payroll ($8,841.34). A maintenance note reported a stolen bulk water meter; the insurance payment on the claim will be $2,365.
Other business: Trustees tabled discussion of a local Denton grant until the next meeting, heard an update on a proposed trail from Pioneer Park to Spring Creek Prairie, and spoke with Bill Edwards about the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum Program and possible native‑landscaping projects.
