Thomasville schedules budget amendment, grant ordinances and SRO-to-CRO transition for Aug. 18 meeting

The Thomasville City Council placed several substantive items on the Aug. 18, 2025 regular meeting agenda during its Aug. 11 briefing, including a budget amendment, two grant‑project ordinances, a proposed annexation and a protocol change for school resource officers.

City Manager Brandt identified the regular‑agenda items to be considered on Aug. 18: Budget Amendment 2026 – P2‑01; a Grant Project Ordinance for the Unilin "Atlantis B" building reuse grant project; a Grant Project Ordinance for the ICMA Senior Mobility Leaders in Government grant; a proposal to transition the Elementary School Resource Officer position to a Community Resource Officer position; and an ordinance to extend Thomasville's corporate limits to include 129 Kennedy Road.

Council members also placed a set of consent items on the Aug. 18 agenda: minutes from the July 14 briefing and July 21 council meeting, and road‑closure ordinances for community events including Everybody's Night (Sept. 26), Everybody's Day (Sept. 27), the Light Up the Holidays Festival (Nov. 22), the Christmas Parade (Dec. 13), the Star of Bethlehem Drive‑Thru Nativity (Dec. 13–14) and Chair City Christmas (Dec. 19).

The listing of a budget amendment and grant ordinances signals staff will present details and proposed appropriations at the regular meeting; the briefing did not include dollar amounts or final votes. The proposed transition of the elementary School Resource Officer to a Community Resource Officer was placed on the agenda for council consideration; the briefing record does not include debate or a decision on that item.
