Resident urges Rockville to shape bike‑path routing, warns sidewalks won’t be safe

"Putting fast‑moving bikes on the same path as an elderly person out for a morning walk or a little kid heading to the post office is not a safe solution," Andersen said, describing interrupted sidewalks, open ditches and narrow stretches where pedestrians and cyclists would conflict.
Mayor Pam Leach said she has spoken with regional planner Leslie Fonger and that current work is focused on the LaVerkin‑to‑Virgin segment; she added that planners have not presented a formal proposal for Rockville. Leach and Andersen discussed the idea of repurposing a parking lane on State Route 9 to create a wider on‑road bike lane rather than forcing cyclists onto sidewalks. Leach said an environmental assessment is expected for the LaVerkin–Virgin portion this year, with design work to follow, and that Rockville could be part of subsequent design conversations.
Andersen said a dedicated path would let residents safely walk and allow teenagers to bike to work; he asked for a public presentation of routing options so townspeople can weigh in. Leach said Greater Zion and UDOT attend regional collaborative meetings and a public outreach presentation would be useful. The council did not take a formal vote; the matter remains for future design coordination with UDOT and regional planners.
