Cornish council approves minutes and $1,940.86 in bills; upholds statewide fireworks ban

Cornish Town Hall — The Cornish Town Council took several routine actions July 1 and reviewed community requests.
The council approved the minutes from the June 17, 2026 meeting unanimously. It then approved bills totaling $1,940.86; the bill vote recorded Councilmember Chris Buxton, Councilmember Colton Creech, Councilmember John Forsgren and Mayor Matt Leak voting Aye and Councilmember Brad Fisher recorded Absent.
On fireworks, Mayor Matt Leak said the council had missed the deadline to define a local fireworks boundary, so Cornish defaulted to the statewide ban that prohibits fireworks inside city limits; the council agreed to keep that default to avoid potential liability if fires are started. The council also agreed to let Lena Leak keep flags on the park fence poles through July 24.
Citizen Dale Buxton asked the council to add a link on the town website showing cemetery plots and who is buried there; the council approved the idea and staff will work to add the link. Councilmember Chris Buxton reported the Cornish Fall Festival committee asked to include a notice on upcoming water bills; the committee will be added to the next meeting agenda to present plans.
Councilmember Colton Creech moved to adjourn at the end of the meeting; the motion passed with Creech, Forsgren and Mayor Leak recorded Aye and Councilmembers Buxton and Fisher recorded Absent. The meeting ended at 8:29 p.m.
