Keansburg council names George Hoff mayor, Thomas Foley deputy; approves calendar and appointments

Thomas P. Cusick, municipal clerk, opened the Borough of Keansburg’s 27th Reorganization Meeting at noon July 1, 2026 at Borough Hall and announced the official results of the May 12 municipal election: Michael Donaldson 241 votes, James Cocuzza 240.
Following the roll call, Councilman George Hoff moved to nominate Michael Donaldson as temporary chairman; the council approved the motion. During nominations for mayor, Councilman James Cocuzza moved and Councilman Thomas Foley seconded to nominate George Hoff. A roll call vote was unanimous and George Hoff took the oath of office, administered by his brother, Christopher J. Hoff.
Mayor George Hoff then solicited nominations for Acting (Deputy) Mayor. Michael Donaldson moved and James Cocuzza seconded the nomination of Thomas Foley; the council voted unanimously to appoint Foley, and Mayor Hoff administered the oath.
The council adopted several resolutions by roll call vote. Resolution #26-082 designated Amboy Bank, Bank of New York/National Community Division, New Jersey Cash Management Fund, Manasquan Savings Bank, OceanFirst Bank, TD Bank United Roosevelt, US Bank, Valley National Bank and Wells Fargo as official depositories for borough funds. Resolution #26-083 designated Asbury Park Press, The Star-Ledger or The Two River Times as official newspapers for legal notices and commits to publishing the full text of legal notices on the borough’s official website and the State’s Legal Notice Portal consistent with P.L. 2025, Ch. 72 (N.J.S.A. 35:3-1 et seq.).
By resolution, the council adopted its meeting calendar for July 2026 through June 2028, listing regular and conference meeting dates and directing the municipal clerk to publish the schedule in accordance with the Open Public Meetings Act (N.J.S.A. 10:4-6 et seq.).
Resolution #26-085 appointed municipal professionals for one-year contracts (July 1, 2026–June 30, 2027), naming John O. Bennett III as borough attorney; Robert Allison as borough auditor; T & M Associates for borough engineer and planner roles; and multiple special counsel appointments for labor and redevelopment matters. The council also approved Resolution #26-086 appointing Planning Board of Adjustment members and alternates for specified terms, and Resolution #26-087 appointing voting members to the Keansburg Recreation Committee for terms Aug. 1, 2026–July 31, 2027.
Clerk Cusick opened the meeting to the public; no members of the public spoke. At the request of Deputy Municipal Clerk Jo-Ann O’Brien, Mayor Hoff recognized the Truax brothers in observance of the Semiquincentennial and announced fireworks and festivities at Baywalk East on July 3. The council adjourned following a unanimous roll call vote.
