Mansfield Library trustees approve $40 for summer planters; director reports rising circulation and program plans

Elizabeth Crooker, the library director, told trustees the library has seen an increase in circulation year to date: Jan—May 2026 checkouts totaled 3,306 versus 3,051 for the same period in 2025, an increase of about 8.3 percent. Monthly totals listed in the report show May 2025 circulation of 614 and May 2026 circulation of 656. Crooker also reported programming updates: Tea Club kits (May: all 20 claimed; June: 11 of 20 claimed), a plant swap attended by roughly a dozen people, a teen sewing workshop that produced 19 —emotional support chickens,' and active Summer Reading registration with 13 officially registered children; Summer Reading is set to begin June 22.
Crooker said the library has been using the Biblionix catalog system for nearly a month and that patrons find it easier to search and reserve books; library web links and Wowbrary entries were updated to point to the new catalog.
Carter Sartell, treasurer, presented financials: an NHPDIP balance of $17,526.78 as of May 31, 2026, and a Citizens balance of $2,614 (report date corrected to May 31, 2026). The trustees also reviewed small remaining grant balances and donor-restricted funds, including a $60 museum pass reimbursement and $1,000 trustee programming allocation.
