Mansfield Library trustees discuss possible shared addition with Temple Historical Society

Gretchen Whitcomb, chair of the Mansfield Library trustees, opened a discussion on June 9 after members of the Temple Historical Society described preliminary ideas for a shared addition to the library building.
Randy Martin, Kent Perry, Bruce Kullgren and Kathy McDonnell of the Temple Historical Society told trustees that the relocation of the highway garage creates an opportunity for building expansion and would provide roughly 20 parking spaces that could serve both organizations. They outlined general needs and benefits but did not present a formal plan or cost estimate.
Elizabeth Crooker, the library director, and trustees agreed not to commit to a single design or funding approach at this time. The trustees and the historical society decided each group will independently develop their space requirements and then reconvene for a joint discussion to refine options and next steps.
Trustees noted that any permanent exterior signage related to fundraising or construction would require approval from the Temple Historic District Commission, and that additional reviews or permits could be necessary as plans progress.
