Dunn County eases pit-burning restriction; residents must call local fire chief and assume liability

On July 1 the Dunn County Board amended its fire restriction policy to permit pit burning unless the county fire index is set to high, very high or extreme.
Emergency Manager Sarah Duttenhefer told the board that pit burning was previously restricted but can be reopened with conditions. The adjustment requires residents to call the appropriate local fire chief before burning; the person conducting the burn is responsible for any resulting damages. The county will keep controlled burn requirements posted on its website.
The motion to adjust the fire restriction passed unanimously (motion by Pelton, second Heiser; all aye). The board recorded no further modifications to burn rules at the meeting.
