At the July 15 meeting the Platteville School District board approved the final reading of Policy 443.5 governing student possession and use of personal electronic devices and authorized a separate technology purchase.
Staff presented the final-reading policy as required under state law and said, once approved, the district will submit the policy to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) for compliance. "If the board approves this final reading, the next step for the district per state law is to submit to the DPI," a staff member said.
Following the policy vote, the board considered a technology purchase tied to earlier spring discussions about device counts for state testing and classroom needs. Staff recommended purchasing 75 Chromebooks from Insight for $31,032. A trustee moved and the motion carried; the board approved the purchase as presented.
A committee member noted the district previously planned for larger Chromebook orders and that the current purchase reflects a stepwise approach. The purchase and the policy approval were recorded as approved during the meeting.
