On Jan. 7, 2025, the Silver Creek Township Planning & Zoning Board granted a variance requested by Zeigler Custom Homes so a new dwelling’s deck may encroach partially into the building setback from Locke Lake. Member Tom Vanek moved to approve the variance; Member Mike Helman seconded, and the motion carried with eight votes in favor and one abstention by Member Mark Egge.
The board record says the proposed house itself complies with township standards and aligns with neighboring properties; the deck is the only portion partially within the lake setback. Chairman Chris Klein explained that shifting the plans closer to the road would interfere with the septic system, a constraint the board cited in considering the application. A neighbor, James Lunde, attended and told the board he supported the variance request.
The board did not record additional objections from members or guests during the consideration. The motion passed without conditions recorded in the minutes. There was no separate public hearing transcript in the meeting minutes and no further appeals or follow-up items were listed.
