Hillsborough intern reports Riverwalk and Shedd Brook trail problems; commission discusses kiosks and markers

Jack Blevens, a summer intern, reported to the Hillsborough Conservation Commission on trail conditions June 23, noting maintenance and signage needs that the commission said it would follow up on.
Blevens said he walked the Riverwalk and Shedd Brook trails and "reported that there was a log on the Riverwalk that should be cleared." He also said map holders on the Shedd Brook Trail contained town-wide maps but not the trail-specific maps and that one section was overgrown. Regarding safety, he said "the section heading up from the brook was very steep and perhaps should have a warning sign." Recording Secretary John P. Segedy agreed to see if the Shedd Brook maps could be printed on the town printer; James McDonough and Jim Narloch volunteered to inspect the trail and consider adding markers. The commission discussed scheduling a work session to address the items.
Separately, commissioners discussed kiosk design details for trailheads and conservation areas. Member Terry Yeaton suggested design features including appropriate kiosk height, hinge versus lock options, and background choices; Doug Lischke recommended orienting the roof line to avoid water dripping on people. Commissioners discussed placing kiosks at the Riverwalk in addition to the Confluence Conservation Area and agreed to consult with town officials about siting and design; Chair Richard Head said he would contact Andy Edwards about attending a meeting to discuss the project.
The commission also noted the History Alive event had been rained out and rescheduled to Aug. 15 and that volunteers would be needed to staff an information table.
