Police warn of unbudgeted radar replacements; drug task-force paperwork near completion

The police chief (S2) told council that seven radar units had been sent for repair after recertification, with three returned nonrepairable. He said replacement units cost about $7,000 each and that the expense is not currently budgeted. "Each radar unit is about $7,000 a piece," S2 said, and asked council to note the need for replacements.
S2 also described a license-identifier agreement connected to the Metro Carbon Drug Task Force that the drug task-force board and partner agencies have agreed to partially fund; signatures are expected to be finalized shortly. Staff said the agreement will aid joint operations across jurisdictions.
Council did not take formal budget action during the meeting; staff indicated they will follow up with cost options and potential procurement pathways.
