Bremer County authorizes grant application for 12 speed-feedback signs (Resolution 26-61)

The Bremer County Board of Supervisors voted to authorize submission of a Traffic Safety Improvement Program grant application to the Iowa Department of Transportation to install 12 speed-feedback signs at locations the county engineer identified.
County engineer Landon Moore described the locations (including East and West of Bremer, Frederica, Buck Creek, Reedland and Klinger) and said the signs would show speed below the limit and flash drivers' actual speeds; some units also allow short message displays such as "slow down." He said if the grant follows an 80/20 split the county's local share would be roughly $8,000 (the total project estimate on the record was about $44,000). The county must keep the signs in service for 10 years per grant requirements, but the county could change locations if local speed zones are later amended.
Supervisors asked whether changes to posted speed limits would force grant amendments; staff said the signs could be moved without reapplying but must remain operational for the 10-year service requirement. The board approved the application and signed resolution 26-61 by voice vote (ayes; chair voted aye).
Staff recorded the resolution number as 26-61 and will prepare the signed copy for inclusion with the grant submission.
