Board authorizes FY2019 travel, discusses NASBA meeting and elects officers

At the July 27 meeting the Kansas Board of Accountancy approved routine administrative business including the consent calendar and authorization of travel for the executive director, board members, staff and legal counsel for FY2019.
Chair John R. Helms reported on the NASBA Western Regional meeting, telling the board that attendees expressed overwhelming disapproval of a new pathway while supporting a reexamination of education and exam requirements. He said attendees were concerned about the AICPA's decision to allow the Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV) credential to be offered to non-CPAs, and that other topics included sexual harassment and regulation of cryptocurrencies. Executive Director Susan L. Somers said she had been asked to serve on a NASBA committee to consider ideas for the future of the exam, education and the audit function.
Denise Denning nominated Kathryn Mitchell for Chair and Corlene Lange for Vice-Chair; by vote Mitchell was elected Chair and Lange Vice-Chair for the ensuing year. Before adjourning, board members recognized Denise Denning and T. C. Anderson for their service; both will no longer serve after July 31.
