Coastal Corridor Alliance president urges board to preserve Randall Preserve

Welsh described the site as an estuary with strategic high ground and said archaeological and tribal connections show people have lived in the area for at least 3,000 years.
He said tribal leaders are involved in a tribal access and engagement plan that would allow ceremony and sustainable harvesting of native plants and noted a Randall Preserve Advisory Committee public meeting on July 10 at the Herzog Community Room in Costa Mesa that will include tribal chairs, elected officials and agency representatives. Welsh urged trustees to seek alternatives to building homes on Banning Ranch and to coordinate with the advisory committee and state resource agencies.
The board did not take action on the subject that night; Welsh’s comments were entered into the public record during the public comment period ahead of the board’s closed session.
