Carbondale awarded $650,000 CDBG grant for City Park; council approves agreement

Brett Wagner of GAS told the City Council on Aug. 4 that Carbondale had been awarded the full $650,000 Community Development Block Grant for the City Park project. City staff and partners plan to provide a local match of $153,000 from the city, the Lions Club and the Jones Foundation.
The council approved the grant agreement (Grant 25-PF-016) by motion of Council President Kevin Seals, seconded by Councilmember Kaitlyn Ball; the motion carried. Wagner said a city employee must attend the required state workshop; Emily Bessette and Heather Garrison have signed up for the Aug. 26, 2025 session.
Why it matters: The CDBG award funds a major park improvement project and unlocks matching local funds already identified by the council and community partners. City staff will proceed with the state-required workshop and next steps for project planning and procurement.
