Chetopa K‑12 administrator Jolene Hall and St. Paul administrator Renee Gillard outlined a range of instructional, service and extracurricular activities during the Dec. 1 board meeting.
Hall said 8th graders visited the Sherwin Miller Museum of Jewish Arts in connection with the book Number the Stars, and that the district’s Thanksgiving play and a staff‑vs‑students motivator day occurred as planned. She announced the Dec. 9 Christmas program, the Dec. 10 parade (with the band marching) and a Dec. 10 7th‑grade trip to a Christmas carol in Kansas City. Volunteers from the Chetopa Museum are scheduled to speak with students Dec. 4.
Gillard reported that the Veteran’s Day program was successful, NHS hosted a community dinner for senior citizens with student performers, and the district’s food drives and volunteer efforts resulted in more than 40 families receiving holiday food bundles. Gillard said athletic seasons are beginning: high‑school basketball had jamborees in Iola and Arma, MS basketball starts Dec. 12, and the Mark Terlip Classic will run Dec. 11–13. She also reported that the Angel Tree had adopted all listed families and that CHC will perform vision and hearing screenings on Dec. 9.
Gillard additionally noted extracurricular programming: scholars bowl participation and collaboration with K‑State Extension and Amanda Classen on a Youth Entrepreneurship Contest; St. Paul will host a powerlifting meet; and the Chetopa–Saint Paul game will include shirts supporting Mr. Bagshaw with grey ribbons available at the ticket table.
