USD 505 elects Josh Baker vice president; student handbook changes approved

Roberta Carter, president of Unified School District No. 505, opened the Dec. 1 board meeting and nominated Josh Baker for vice president; the nomination was seconded by Maggy Robison, nominations were closed, and the board approved Baker as vice president on a 5‑0 vote. The board began its meeting by approving the agenda and the consent agenda, which included minutes, bills and activity accounts.
During board matters, Carter reported that the City of Chetopa is moving forward with placing a district‑adjacent property on the market; the announcement was provided as an informational update. Trustees discussed proposed changes to the student handbook and, on a motion by Kari Chambers seconded by Josh Baker, voted 5‑0 to adopt the handbook changes with an effective date of Jan. 1.
Board members also reviewed the proposal and estimated costs related to Neosho County mapping but took no action, tabling the matter for a later meeting.
The meeting proceeded with routine reports from district staff, including technology and school administrators, before the board entered a series of executive sessions later in the evening.
