Residents press board on survey results and fundraising as levy discussion continues

Two members of the public addressed the board during the meeting’s public‑comment period.
Terry Dodson, a resident, promoted a Citizens for Better Schools golf tournament on Aug. 14 at Lewisville Golf Course to raise money for the levy campaign. Dodson said registration and a QR code are available at votebgschools.org and that proceeds will be used for mailers, door hangers and advertising to help pass the levy in November.
Sharon Duffy, a longtime parent and grandparent in the district, asked whether the raw results of online community surveys had been shared and expressed confusion about campaign messaging on special education. Staff said the board had been given the raw data and reiterated that special education services are required under FAPE and IDEA; staff explained that the district must provide services determined by IEP teams and that shortfalls in state/federal funding are covered by reallocation of local funds when no levy exists.
Both commenters were thanked for their engagement. The board said staff would continue to provide material and answer requests for data as the district prepares outreach ahead of the November vote.
