Council hears about disputed tractor repair bill as maintenance staff report construction updates

Dustin Bretsnyder told the council that a 2003 tractor making a grinding noise had been taken to KanEquip for repairs. KanEquip informed the city the work would cost $4,500 because the unit was one month out of warranty. Bretsnyder said he had contacted the shop around the beginning of August while the tractor was still under warranty but could not transport it because of a trailer issue; he said KanEquip proceeded to open the transmission and split it without council approval.
Mayor Anthony DaPrato has been trying to reach the shop by phone. Councilmember Chad Moore asked staff to seek a reduced cost since the transmission was opened while the vehicle may still have been under warranty; Councilmember Kaitlyn Ball suggested checking phone logs and calling KanEquip with exact dates staff attempted contact to support a warranty claim.
In the same maintenance update, the council was told RDR will begin water line construction on Dec. 1 on the west side of the highway, Cox’s drilling crew is 66% complete and will be returning to fix yards, Eagle and Clark staff will attend remote monitoring and waste storage training on Nov. 4, and maintenance needs include setting up two computers (one coordinated with SCADA). City Hall’s foundation work is complete, some crosswalks were repainted, and park lights have been delivered.
