Caney council approves sale of State Street shop for $10,000

Mayor Joshua D. Elliott reported the City received an offer of $10,000 for the State Street shop that includes tearing down the condemned brick portion of the building. Mayor Elliott said asbestos test results are pending and that the buyer would have one year to remove the brick portion. Council Member Elizabeth Burch asked what the building would be used for; Mayor Elliott said the buyer plans to use it as storage for construction equipment.
Council Member Burch also asked whether the bulk-water facility could be moved before the closing date set for May 8; Mayor Elliott said staff is looking into options and that the closing date could be extended if needed. Council Member Elizabeth Burch moved to approve the sale and Council Member Becky Dye seconded; the motion carried 3-0.
No other conditions or alternative uses were approved at the meeting; staff will proceed to finalize the contract and complete required environmental/asbestos clearance before closing.
