Emily Bessette, a city employee, told the council that Hope Against Hunger “did not have enough volunteers to put on the Thanksgiving community meal this year” and said she had been working with several individuals and believed she could secure enough help if the council provided a $500 donation. John Ryan, speaking from the audience, noted an additional meal scheduled for Nov. 15, 2025, at Carbondale Church of Christian Fellowship hosted by Pastor John.
Councilmember Kaitlyn Ball moved to authorize the $500 donation on behalf of the City of Carbondale; Ronald Moeller seconded. The council voted unanimously in favor and the motion carried.
The request also prompted a brief procedural question about meeting minutes formatting: John Ryan asked that minutes be uploaded in a consistent format, and Bessette said the city requires PDFs and that she has converted the records accordingly.
The donation will be paid from city funds as approved by the council motion; the council did not provide additional details about timing or which department will disburse the funds.
