Caney council authorizes beer sales at Fourth & Live, tables Mayfest permit until May 4

During consideration of a separate permit for Mayfest (Resolution 2026.18), Debbie Wood, representing the Betterment Group, described the proposed Mayfest drinking area as “between the tennis courts and the park, from 5th street up to the alley.” Council members asked how consumption along Ridgeway Street would be policed and staff requested that Jared attend a future meeting to explain enforcement plans. Council President Culver moved to table the Mayfest resolution until the May 4 meeting so staff could provide more details; the motion carried 3-0.
No enforcement plan was approved tonight; staff confirmed the beer license application is through the state and that mapped boundaries for permitted consumption were included in the agenda packet. The council did not modify hours or locations at this meeting; staff and the Betterment Group will return with the requested clarifications at the May 4 meeting.
