Christian County commissioners voted to file an "intent to adopt" a FEMA hazard mitigation plan so the county can meet an imminent federal deadline and preserve eligibility for mitigation funding.
An emergency management official told the commission that the county has been working with SEMCOG on a hazard mitigation plan and must submit either formal adoption or a written intent to adopt by Friday to comply with FEMA requirements. "We need to submit either the adoption or the intent to adopt by Friday in order to meet FEMA deadlines," the official said.
Commissioners discussed whether to adopt a final plan now or submit intent and finalize later; Commissioner Jackson said he preferred filing the intent while staff completes a perfected plan. Jackson moved to approve filing the intent to adopt upon plan completion; the Chair seconded the motion and commissioners approved it by voice vote.
Staff said they would prepare the required documentation and work with county staff (Brenda) to sign and transmit the notice. The transcript records the policy decision to file intent; no formal adoption or detailed mitigation measures were approved at this meeting.
