Christian County commissioners voted to approve a renegotiated contract with the U.S. Marshals Service to house federal inmates, raising the per-diem rate and formalizing hourly pay for guards.
The change, presented by Sheriff Patrick, raises the daily payment the county will receive from $75 to $100.41 and sets guard and transportation pay at $32 per hour. "The new negotiated rate is a $100.41 per day," Sheriff Patrick said, adding that the jail houses on average about 50 inmates from that program each month.
Commissioner Jackson asked about the period of performance and was told the contract can be renegotiated every 36 months. Jackson said the higher rate will reduce the financial burden on county residents and moved to approve the contract; the Chair seconded the motion and commissioners approved it by voice vote.
The sheriff asked commissioners to sign the documents immediately so jail staff could complete required business paperwork. The commission did not record a roll-call vote in the transcript; the motion passed by unanimous voice vote. No amendments or provisos were recorded.
