McBee council approves townwide water meter replacement and accepts $250,001 property bid; two members recuse from sale

Councilman Robbie Liles moved to approve the replacement; Ricky Peoples seconded and the motion passed with all in favor. The minutes record that meters are “20 something years old” and that the town will replace large commercial meters. Participants said similar replacements historically increased revenue by about 22%, an amount the minutes approximate as “about $5,000 per month.” The council noted there will be a small monthly payment for the project—estimated to be in the “$2,500’s.”
Property sale: The council amended the agenda to include a previously bid property. Mayor Odom and Councilman James Linton recused themselves from discussion and decisions concerning the sale because of a stated attachment to the property. Councilman Robbie Liles moved to accept a bid of $250,001.00 for the town property; Ricky Peoples seconded the motion and the record shows it carried with all in favor among voting members. The council then authorized Robbie Liles to sign on behalf of the town to complete the sale.
A town finance note: Mayor Odom said that when the sale and related transactions are completed—he projected completion by Monday—the town will have about $500,000 in the bank.
What changed: the meter replacement is an operational infrastructure decision the council approved at this meeting; the property sale was accepted after recusal by two members and the council authorized a councilman to sign closing documents.
