Treynor schools rated 'High Performing'; board reviews survey, facility repairs and draft calendar

The Treynor Community School District board on Jan. 12 reviewed district performance and community feedback and discussed maintenance priorities and the draft 2026–27 calendar.
Superintendent Dr. Beyenhof told the board the district earned a 73.23% rating of High Performing on the Iowa School Performance Profile, ranking 28th of 325 districts; the high school received an Exceptional designation and was reported as the state's second‑ranked high school. Dr. Beyenhof presented results of a district survey that generated 506 responses (331 students and 174 adults), noting most items rated B+ or higher and identifying opportunities for further review on transparency about funding/resources and perceptions of bullying and harassment. The administration will bring survey details to SIAC on Feb. 3 for further review and report back to the board at the February meeting.
The board also heard a presentation from Laura Monson of the Pottawattamie County Soil and Water Conservation District about no‑cost conservation education programs for Treynor Elementary, including classroom programming and a Mulch Madness tree‑planting activity. Facility items discussed for summer work included re‑shingling wind‑damaged roofs on the baseball/softball concession stand and clubhouse, possible replacement of the baseball backstop netting, renovation of middle‑school bathrooms near the office, and repairs to the west gym roof.
Superintendent Beyenhof recognized Monica Grasshorn as the Raising the Red "C" recipient for her work as the elementary cook and highlighted student successes including a selection to the Iowa Shrine Bowl and Alec Lovely surpassing 1,000 career points. The board set a public hearing on the draft calendar prior to its planned approval at the February meeting.
