At a special meeting on Aug. 5, 2024, the Floyd County EMS Advisory Council voted to ask the Board of Supervisors to collect up to $0.69 per $1,000 of property valuation to fund emergency medical services, a request the council says would yield up to $669,000 annually.
The council’s action followed a recent Board of Supervisors decision to reject the advisory council’s earlier recommendation to seek $669,000 per year on a 10-year schedule. Council member Dawnett Willis said the amount the BOS suggested was insufficient to cover unforeseen expenses and to continue supporting all EMS agencies that serve Floyd County residents.
Dawn Staudt moved that the advisory council request the Board of Supervisors collect up to $0.69 per $1,000 of property valuation; Dawnett Willis seconded the motion, and the council recorded the motion as passed. The council discussed revising the original request from a 10-year period to a proposal “up to, but not to exceed, $669,000 annually for five years,” as recorded in meeting notes.
The meeting also opened with and approved the agenda on a motion from Dave Luett, seconded by Dawn Staudt. Council members in attendance were Keith Starr, Dawnett Willis, Dave Luett, Dawn Staudt and Jeff Sterling; non-voting members Jim Jorgenson and Marty Parcher were listed. The Charles City Press was present as public/press.
Council members said they will wait for the Board of Supervisors’ response before setting the next meeting date. The meeting was adjourned after the funding-request motion.
Actions recorded in the meeting minutes indicate the agenda was approved, the funding-request motion was passed, and the meeting was adjourned. Specific vote tallies were not specified in the minutes.
