Kankakee County board approves $9.88 million in claims, multiple bridge-design agreements and building roof contracts

Dan (county staff member) read the claims committee report for May 2026 showing total claims of $9,882,653.66; the board approved the report on a roll-call vote (motion first by Lowy, second by Miller). The recorded roll-call votes were recorded as affirmative by the named members present.
The board also approved a set of engineering agreements to design bridge replacements: a $149,862 design contract with Gonzales Companies LLC for two bridge replacements on County Highway 53 in St. Ann and Pembroke townships; an $85,660 design contract with Hampton, Lanzini and Renwick Inc. for a bridge on County Highway 54 in Engineer Township; and an $85,006.60 design contract with Hampton, Lanzini and Renwick Inc. for a bridge on County Highway 44 in Bourbonna Township. Each resolution was approved by roll-call vote.
In finance business the board awarded a roofing contract to Langley Roofing Inc. to replace roofs at the county highway building ($113,100), the ICAM Regional Office of Education building ($420,250) and the county health department ($397,900). The chair noted there is no down payment and that payment will be made at project completion.
The consent agenda, approved unanimously, included several appointments (for example, Marcy Sadler to the Kankakee County Convention and Visitors Bureau and Dr. Waltie Woody Webb to the ethics commission) and multiple polling-place changes for precincts across the county.
On land-use matters the board approved ZBA case 26-04, rezoning 6.5 acres from A-1 Agriculture to RE (Rural Estate) in St. Ann Township, following a 6–0 recommendation from the Zoning Board. The board also approved CPA case 26-05, a special-use permit to allow a church facility on a seven-acre parcel, after planning and zoning recommendation.
The board carried two state-set compensation resolutions: setting the state's attorney's annual salary and setting the public defender's annual salary. Both were presented as state-mandated figures and carried on roll-call votes.
Routine departmental reports were combined and approved, and the chair listed numerous openings across county advisory boards and drainage districts. The meeting adjourned after final motions carried by voice vote.
