Council approves vehicle-replacement resolution after questions about procurement and co-op fees

A council member asked if the replacements are true replacements being returned to the leasing company or new acquisitions and whether the administrative vehicle needed to be a Tahoe given its price. Staff explained these are replacements and that prior Durangos experienced reliability problems (engine failures), which influenced the choice of replacement models. "We've had to replace engines in them already... they've become a disaster for us," staff said, and recommended continuing with interceptors rather than Dodge products.
Council members also asked about procurement through Sourcewell, a cooperative purchasing contract. One council member said Sourcewell charges a fee and asked whether vendors such as Enterprise have their own state or national contracts that could be used instead to avoid the middleman fee. Staff said Sourcewell has vendors already bid, saving the township from running its own bid process, and that the township solicits quotes from those approved vendors.
After discussion the council moved, took a roll call and approved Resolution 26-2-19. The clerk recorded affirmative roll-call responses for the resolution and the motion carried.
