Sac City Council approves claims and personnel actions, moves solid-waste fee change to first reading

At its June 24 meeting, the Sac City Council approved routine financial claims, several personnel actions and board reappointments, and moved a draft change to the city's solid-waste tonnage charge to formal consideration.
On a motion by Bob Murley, seconded by Kayla Shull, the council approved vendor claims totaling $260,190.07. The claims list included a $51,900 payment to Utility Service Co. for a water tower payment; the transcript shows claims were allocated across multiple funds including the general fund, water and sewer utilities, debt service, and a large garbage utility balance.
The council unanimously approved Resolution No. 2025-21, hiring city employees for fiscal year 2025-2026 (motion by Larry Mahler, seconded by Kayla Shull). The council also approved hiring Mckenna Goldtrap as a summer intern at the library at $10.00 per hour.
Council reappointed Gary Mikkelson, Sharon Thompson and Rochelle Crump to the Library Board. The council also reappointed Laurie Kluver, Abby Greenlee, Marie Drey, Becky Halbur and Susan Groth to the Kids World Board; Councilperson Kayla Shull recorded an abstention on the Kids World reappointments.
On a separate item, the council discussed a draft ordinance amending Chapter 106, Section 106.7(1)B(1), to update the tonnage charge for solid-waste disposal because disposal costs have increased. On motion by Bob Murley, seconded by Larry Mahler, the council voted to move the draft forward for a first reading at the next meeting.
Committee and department head reports were given, the council held a forum, and the meeting adjourned at 5:41 p.m.
