The Sac City Council on June 24 rejected an ordinance to limit parking to one hour on South 6th Street but unanimously directed staff to move other traffic changes toward formal readings.
On the second reading of Ordinance No. 2025-334, Councilperson Larry Mahler voted in favor while Councilpersons Bob Murley and Kayla Shull voted against, and the ordinance failed. The measure would have amended Chapter 69 (Parking Regulations) to add South 6th Street between Main and Audubon Streets to the one-hour parking section.
Councilmember Bob Murley then introduced a draft ordinance amending Chapter 68, Section 68.01, relating to required one-way traffic. The council voted unanimously to advance that draft to a full ordinance for consideration at the next meeting, directing staff to prepare the formal text and any necessary maps.
Councilperson Kayla Shull moved, and Larry Mahler seconded, a directive to prepare an ordinance prohibiting parking on the south side of O'Connor Drive. The motion carried unanimously, with councilmembers asking staff to return the proposed ordinance for a future meeting.
The council did not adopt any of the parking or traffic changes as final law; the one-hour parking proposal failed, while the one-way and O'Connor Drive proposals were sent forward for additional drafting and a formal vote at a subsequent meeting.
