At the Aug. 27 meeting, Police Chief David Pernice updated councilors on sworn‑staff recruiting.
Pernice said a candidate approved at the prior meeting has been unresponsive to contact attempts and he now assumes the individual is no longer interested. He told councilors he will reach out to the hiring consortium (the current list contains 32 candidates), coordinate with the Civil Service Commission to schedule oral exams and send letters to potential candidates. The chief stated his preference to hire two part‑time officers but noted only one part‑time position had been approved; councilors agreed to continue recruitment for one part‑time officer.
Council did not take further formal action on staffing at this meeting; the chief will report back on recruitment progress and any Civil Service scheduling.
