Union City council clears $2,690 lien, awards Renaissance grants and approves canoe/kayak launch contract

Union City Borough Council met Aug. 27 at First Global Methodist Church and unanimously approved several routine and project‑level actions.
Councilors removed a $2,690 lien the borough held on a property donated to the Erie County Landbank at 121 East High Street. Councilor Kerns moved to remove the lien and Councilor Steadman seconded; the motion carried unanimously.
The council reviewed quotes for a canoe and kayak launch at the American Legion ball field. Construction Services of PA submitted the low quote of $16,679. Councilor Osborn moved to accept that quote contingent on receiving an easement from the American Legion; Councilor Kerns seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Manager Cindy Wells presented seven recommended Renaissance grant applications totaling $60,606 in project work and requesting $23,600 in grant funds. Wells said $90,547.35 remained available in the Renaissance grant program. Councilor Steadman moved to approve the recommended awards, Councilor Osborn seconded, and the motion carried unanimously.
The council also reviewed and passed a resolution accepting the audit report for the Erie Area Council of Governments (EACOG) as reviewed by COG members; that motion carried unanimously.
Other routine business approved without discussion included the agenda, minutes from the Aug. 13 meeting, the secretary’s report, and payment of unpaid bills. No members of the public spoke during the hearing of visitors.
The council adjourned at 6:19 p.m.
