Union City Borough Council voted unanimously to accept a $5,000 quote from Mansfield to repair and reconnect stormwater piping at a sinkhole in Municipal Lot No. 1.
Councilor James Kerns moved the motion, which Councilor Steadman seconded and the council carried without dissent. Borough Manager Cindy Wells presented two bids—McLallen Construction at $6,800 and Mansfield at $5,000—and said the borough would provide pipe and fittings at a cost of $5,000 as part of the work, pending no other problems being identified.
Streets Supervisor Bob Phillips briefed the council on the source of the concern: crews had put 400 gallons of dye into a storm drain near Hogan’s Alley and found it reaching sanitary lines that run toward Municipal Lot No. 1. Phillips said cameras would be used to inspect the lines to identify the exact path and any additional damage needing repair. Riley, a streets staff member, urged a longer camera run, saying, “It wouldn’t be a bad idea to have them camera up to where it ends near Salvation Army to see what that looks like underneath.”
The repair authorization directs staff to proceed with Mansfield’s scope and to provide the pipes and fittings described at the council meeting. There was no recorded dissent; the motion carried unanimously.
