Union City Borough Council approved several land and easement actions Aug. 13, including a retroactive easement for catch‑basin work at 104 East High, a $500 purchase to expand Municipal Lot #3 for a gazebo, and an easement with the American Legion to install and maintain a kayak/canoe launch along French Creek.
PennDOT is installing a catch basin at 104 East High; the borough will install a connecting catch basin. Under the retroactive agreement described by the Borough Manager, property owner Anthony Hickey will dig and maintain a ditch and install pipe between the PennDOT basin and the Borough basin; the borough accepted responsibility for the two catch basins and roughly 60 feet of connecting pipe. Councilor Osborn moved and Councilor Kerns seconded the retroactive easement motion; it carried unanimously.
Council approved a retroactive purchase of a small parcel from 8 South Street for $500 to connect to Municipal Lot #3 for a proposed gazebo; the purchase will proceed after a survey and solicitor paperwork. That motion was moved by Councilor Joyce and seconded by Councilor Kerns.
The Solicitor will draft an easement with the American Legion for a kayak/canoe launch at the ball field along French Creek; the project will be installed and maintained with funds from the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission and the Pennsylvania Environmental Council. Councilor Osborn moved the motion and Councilor Joyce seconded; the motion carried unanimously.
