The Evart Public Schools board approved several personnel items during the meeting, including the hiring of Melissa Poles Williams as a college-and-career counselor (a part-time position intended to serve grades 5–9) and the appointment of Evanda Brown as JV volleyball coach.
During discussion about the college-and-career counselor position, staff described the role as a 0.2 FTE focused on earlier student career exploration: "The idea of this position is... pick our students up in 5th grade with some interest surveys, but then work with them all the way through middle school and beginning of high school," a staff member said. Williams attended the meeting and thanked the board.
The appointment of Evanda Brown drew questions from board members about the basis for the recommendation, including how candidates’ past win-loss records were weighed. The board approved the appointment and a roll-call vote was recorded. The roll-call in the transcript shows recorded yes votes from Rudy Bridal, Gerald Nichols, Ken Worth, Jamie Holleberger and Todd Bromo and no votes from Mark Moody and Eric Schmidt (tally: 5 yes, 2 no as recorded in the minutes portion of the meeting).
Other personnel actions approved by voice vote included several working agreements and hires for coaching and instructional positions. The personnel committee noted it has been reviewing hiring processes and suggested more formal transition procedures for unexpected vacancies.
