Representatives of the Berryville Land Trust presented a countywide wayfinding signage program that would add brown‑and‑white roadway callouts and pedestrian trail signs across jurisdictions including Nevada City.
Jessica Hinken, the city planner, explained the county and the county recreation coalition recently adopted a comprehensive sign program; the land trust is coordinating sign placement and encroachment permits with jurisdictions. "The Planning Commission doesn't have regulatory authority over these roadway signs — they're consistent with the MUTCD recommendations for recreational signage," Hinken said.
Aaron Tarr, the executive director of the land trust, outlined proposed locations for roadway callouts, including Highway 49 and several downtown callouts for trail parking. Commissioners discussed standardization of fonts and corner radii, whether mileage should appear on some signs and color consistency. One commissioner recommended using the city's reflective street‑sign font as a design guide; another suggested removing mileage for consistency across signs.
No formal action was required; staff and the land trust were asked to consider commissioners' advisory comments on font, corner radius and sign text before final encroachment permits and installations.
