Council approved change order number 2 to the Weaver and Jacobs construction contract for the City Hall Civic Center expansion in the amount of $271,819.90. Staff described work in the courtyard — decorative pavers, fencing, lighting that preserves four existing trees, a gas fire pit and perimeter improvements — and said the funding will come from facility and general funds. "It's gonna be a great amenity to pair with the civic center," a staff presenter said as the council reviewed details of the design and value‑engineering that reduced earlier cost estimates.
Separately, council authorized Network Cabling Services (NCS) to install structured cabling and cable runs for the new recreation center in the amount of $125,050.13 through the BuyBoard cooperative. Staff said the cabling must be installed before the gym floor and ceiling are closed up and called the AV/security cabling a high priority for that project. Council also approved a $148,308.70 NCS contract for the complete audio‑visual and cabling package for the City Hall council chambers (microphones, cameras, displays and controls), which staff described as the primary AV procurement for that room.
All three motions passed on roll call. Staff said they will coordinate procurement and scheduling so installation proceeds as construction reaches the appropriate phases.
What happens next: Courtyard work will proceed immediately; cabling work for the rec center will be fast‑tracked to begin the next week. City staff will return for any budget amendments needed to cover the change order and associated accounting.
