Saltville council clears calendar for fall Civil War re‑enactment, approves community grants and donations

The council also approved advertising a request for proposals to cut the town hay field, with direction that bidders avoid the butterfly garden area, and authorized soliciting repair estimates for the library’s deteriorating back porch after Rose Likins raised safety concerns about eroding concrete at a back entrance.
Councilman Cary Sauls proposed using county recreation funds to appropriate $1,500 to the Saltville Golf Club to help purchase equipment for a proposed "adult" night‑golf event; the motion passed (Abramson abstained). Separately, the council approved a $1,500 donation from discretionary funds to support the fire department’s summer kids camps.
Council members said they welcomed public‑private partnerships for community programming and asked staff to include event funding in the budget process.
