Planning commission approves pool fence at 63 Scenic Oaks

The Bloomfield Hills Planning Commission voted to approve a pool fence at 63 Scenic Oaks during its July 14 meeting.
Jill Bame, a planning consultant with Giffels Webster, described the project as a modest pool installation with roughly 37 feet of fencing in what the ordinance classifies as a side yard. Bame said the applicant proposes supplemental planting—including 12-foot evergreen cedars—to screen the fence and minimize impacts on adjacent properties. Leah Michaels, an engineer with HRC, told the commission the applicant’s proposed leaching basin and swales are adequate to manage runoff from the addition.
Applicant Matt Mosier of Mosier Design said the fencing and evergreen screening are intended to reduce visibility and that he would work with the city on reasonable adjustments. After a short round of questions focused on ordinance definitions and how master-deed considerations apply to condominium site plans, a commissioner moved to approve the fence and the motion passed by voice vote.
The commission recorded no conditions beyond standard permitting and site compliance. The commission noted that when master deeds or recorded site plans are altered, additional review steps may be required; staff will flag such cases in future reviews.
The commission proceeded to other agenda items without further action on this property.
