Staff said the contractor approached the county offering used box beams in their inventory that match the bridge length and are more economical than buying new beams. Presenters said the work is similar to the originally bid scope so most bid items can be reused and additional work will be added by amendment if needed. The new bridge will meet current structural and seismic standards, alignment and width requirements, and is expected to have a service life of 75 to 100 years compared with roughly 25 years for a rehabilitation of the existing structure.
The amendment adds an estimated $1,422,800 in state grant funds and an estimated $812,052.35 in county funds to the project; construction is anticipated in summer and fall 2025. Portable reader boards and public outreach were noted as steps staff will use to notify the public about the upcoming closure.
Commissioner Kevin Cameron moved to approve Amendment #2; Commissioner Colm Willis seconded. The motion carried by unanimous voice vote.
