Marion County approves multiple road-materials and signage contracts totaling about $1.7 million

Marion County commissioners on April 16 authorized several Public Works procurement agreements to support road maintenance and safety.
Public Works recommended two asphalt-material price agreements—Houck Construction Materials and RiverBend Materials—each for $635,000 to supply asphalt concrete used for pothole patching and pre-level patching ahead of chip-seal operations. The board approved both agreements on a motion by Commissioner Kevin Cameron, seconded by Commissioner Colm Willis.
The board also approved seven aggregate-material price agreements (amounts ranging from $62,500 to $125,000 per vendor) to support gravel road maintenance, shoulder rocking, sand distribution, snow-and-ice response, road-base repair and culvert work. Dennis Mansfield said vendors were selected based on location and turnaround time following an RFP process.
Separately, the board approved a $208,557 construction contract with Mid Valley Excavation, LLC to install advisory curve-warning signs, add chevrons, post speed-limit indicators and install curve-ahead warnings at prioritized corridors through June 30, 2025. Public Works staff said some corridors currently lack adequate signage or are below current standards.
All measures passed by unanimous voice votes. The agreements are intended to support routine road maintenance and seasonal operations through December 31, 2027 (for material price agreements).
