Lancaster parks department highlights programs, asks council to proclaim July 'Parks Make Life Better' month

Assistant Director Victoria Arena provided a departmental overview: the parks and facilities division maintains more than 300 acres of athletic turf, 17 facilities totaling nearly 1.7 million square feet, and over 4,300 trees; the arts and museums division preserves more than 10,000 works and the Lancaster Performing Arts Center drew more than 35,000 patrons this past season. Recreation programs served more than 112,000 attendees, and administrative, marketing and sponsorship efforts support operations. Arena asked the council to proclaim July as Parks Make Life Better Month and requested a brief photo with the council and staff.
The mayor and council thanked department staff and accepted the presentation. Council and staff checked whether the proclamation required a formal vote; staff noted that the item was agendized as a presentation and any formal proclamation would be adopted on a future agenda. Council welcomed staff, credited the parks team for community programming, and invited staff to pose for a staff photo with the mayor.
