The Bloomfield Hills City Commission voted to approve participation in the Oakland County Columbus Authority'now reorganized as an independent authority'and to appoint Public Safety Director Jeff King to a four-year term.
Jeff King described the change as largely structural: the records-management and citation system long used by Oakland County agencies has moved governance to an independent authority, but he said the city's operational processes will remain largely the same.
"Much of this is already in place," King said, and noted the transition changes the authority's governance structure rather than the day-to-day policing or records work performed for the city.
The commission approved the resolution and the appointment by motion, with members noting continuity of services and little expected operational impact to the city.
