Board adopts 2026–29 strategic plan and approves new district assessment software

Deming’s board adopted a district strategic plan for 2026–2029 and approved a purchase of assessment and intervention software at its July 16 meeting.
Superintendent (speaker 6) described the plan’s four priority areas — reading, math, student wellness and belonging, and college‑, career‑and life‑readiness — and said the only substantive adjustment since prior drafts was a slight upward change to the on‑time graduation target at the comprehensive high school. With board approval, staff will share the broad goals with all staff at the upcoming Wildcat Welcome event.
Separately the board approved a quote for Amira Learning assessment software (approx. $131,000). Instructional staff (speaker 19) said the Amira product (which acquired IStation) includes English and Spanish reading assessments and a math diagnostic and that the new assessments are shorter (15–20 minutes) and yield more actionable data for teachers. "This assessment is much quicker, much more targeted, and actually we get much more data out of it," the presenter said.
The board approved both the strategic plan and the software purchase in separate roll‑call votes. Staff said they will present quarterly updates on progress against the strategic plan indicators.
